Starlit's Strays TNR

Starlit's Strays TNR is a 501(c)3 nonprofit small team of volunteers dedicated to TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and improving the lives of feral cats in Phelps County, Missouri.

Our commitment to community cats is fueled by a desire to improve the current lives of feral cats and prevent the suffering of future generations of cats and kittens.

What Is TNR?

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the only humane and effective method of decreasing the overpopulation of feral cats. During TNR we trap and transport community cats to a veterinary clinic where they are spay/neutered, vaccinated for rabies, and ear tipped (the universal sign a community cat has been altered). Once recovered from surgery the cats are returned to their colony where their caretaker continues to provide food, water, and shelter for the remainder of the cat's lives.

How We Started

August, 2019 we borrowed a live trap and rescued a 12 week old kitten born outside to a feral cat, she was the only survivor of her litter. We named her Starlit. It was then we realized the large number of feral cats struggling to survive in our rural Missouri town. We wanted to get involved with helping them and quickly learned that the best way to improve their lives is through TNR! This breaks the cycle of kittens being born, sickness, and death. We officially became a 501(c)3 in September, 2020.

Colony Caretaking

We caretake for multiple colonies in St. James and Rolla. We feed, water, provide shelter from the elements and predators, and medical attention when needed for 60+ fixed feral cats daily.

Socializing

In addition to TNR and colony caretaking, we have socialized countless feral kittens, and network with licensed rescues to find them the forever homes they deserve. While not always possible, we are very passionate about socializing and not leaving young kittens or abandoned friendly cats living in feral colonies.

We are a small nonprofit of volunteers that rely solely on donations to care for over 60+ community cats daily. With your help we can continue our mission of saving lives through TNR, colony caretaking, socialization, and providing medical care for community cats in Phelps County, Missouri.
